WASHINGTON—The Republican-led House approved a spending package to reopen the government late Wednesday, sending the measure ending the record-long 43-day shutdown to President Trump’s desk for his signature.

The longest federal government shutdown in US history was on track to end after the House of Representatives passed a new funding package. The Republican-controlled House voted 222 to 209 in favour of a bill to reopen the federal government and keep it funded until the end of January after the legislation passed the Senate on Monday.

Senators voted on an agreement that will keep the government open until Jan. 30. The continuing resolution now heads to the House of Representatives.
