The number of confirmed deaths from the Texas Hill Country floods rose to 95 in Kerr County on Wednesday, Sheriff Larry Leitha said.

A Kerrville-area river authority executed a contract for a flood warning system that would have been used to help with emergency response, local officials said.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha was asked about a code red.

Following confirmation from Gov. Greg Abbott that more than 160 people were still missing in Kerr County as a result of the deadly Fourth of July weekend floods, officials gathered on Wednesday morning, July 9, to share the latest on search and rescue efforts in the Texas Hill Country.

Residents say Kerr County’s use of CodeRED alerts was sporadic and inconsistent. Local officials have not answered questions about when and how they utilized the system, which has been in place since 2009.

Kerr County is looking at how much warning was given before the flood and how to prevent the next disaster, while donations pour in for flood victims.
