During the Sunday, July 6, episode of “Love Island USA,” narrator Iain Stirling announced that Cierra Ortega had left the show due to a “personal situation.” Prior to her shocking exit, many fans called for Ortega’s removal after discovering that she used a slur for Chinese people in several social media posts.

When it came to contestant Michelle “Chelley” Bissainthe, a Haitian-American Islander, the post was no longer funny. Her “breakfast” featured fruit, Goldfish crackers, and a “knuckle sandwich” —represented by a white fist wedged between two slices of bread.

The new spinoff series picked up the camera to follow season 6 stars, JaNa, 28, her boyfriend Kenny Rodriguez, Leah Kateb and Miguel Harichi, Kaylor Martin and Aaron Evans, Connor Newsum, Kendall Washington and Olivia “Liv” Walker. Serena Page is also part of the cast, along with her boyfriend, Kordell Beckham.
