President Donald Trump's administration has initiated a probe into Duke University and the Duke Law Journal over allegations of race-related discrimination, making it the latest American university to face the threat of cuts to federal funding.

What is Duke accused of? The Department of Education announced the investigations into the university and the Duke Law Journal on Monday. The probe follows reporting from The Washington Free Beacon that alleges the North Carolina institution potentially violated the Civil Rights Act.

The Trump administration is investigating Duke University over allegations that the school has violated the Civil Rights Act. The Education Department and the Department of Health and Human Services said they will investigate whether Duke and its law journal violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.

Separately, Education Secretary Linda McMahon and Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. sent a joint letter to Duke leadership demanding the university review all policies for illegal race preferences and establish a "Merit and Civil Rights Committee" to address alleged violations.
