Results after Minnesota voters decide on key local races and measures in the 2025 election. Polls are open until 8 p.m.

The mayor campaigned with an optimistic pitch, describing St. Paul as a city on the upswing after the pandemic, damage to businesses after the murder of George Floyd. He highlighted a drop in gun violence, and positioned himself as defending the city against President Donald Trump’s policies and as a leader on restricting access to guns.

Minnesota has had a record-tying 6 legislative special elections in 2025. Any additional special election held before the end of the year would break the state’s record for most in a single calendar year.

In Senate District 29, which comprises parts of Wright, Meeker and Hennepin counties to the west of the Twin Cities, Republican Michael Holmstrom Jr. comfortably beat Democratic challenger Louis McNutt. He is ahead by 24.69% with 30 out of 37 precincts reporting.

The Minnesota Star Tribune uses vote counts from the Minnesota Secretary of State’s office to report outcomes in local elections.

While the mayor has lined up support from a majority of the city council, labor unions and progressive advocacy groups active in St. Paul elections like SEIU and Faith in Minnesota, Her has drawn the support of St. Paul Firefighters Local 21 and Teamsters Joint Council 32.
