Trash is already starting to pile up at apartment complexes and commercial properties in central San Diego as some Republic Services trash collectors join a sympathy strike with workers in Boston.

Governor Maura Healey weighed in on the weekslong strike thwarting trash pickup in at least 14 Greater Boston communities on Thursday morning, urging Republic Services to reach a deal.

More Bay Area cities are threatening legal action against Republic Services to get money back to rate payers who have been without trash service.

A Teamsters spokesperson says the picket lines have moved to the Republic Services location on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard, meaning customers will not have their trash picked up.

Republic Services resumed limited trash pickup services to a broad swath of Contra Costa County, as well as other pockets of the Bay Area, after a crippling strike threatened to leave trash and other detritus piling up outside houses and businesses across the region.

State leaders urge Republic Services to finalize contract with striking Teamsters as uncollected garbage piles up in Massachusetts communities and other states across the country.
