Mainers voted Tuesday on changes to election and gun laws with Questions 1 and 2, and in many communities voted on municipal elections and local referendums.

BANGOR, Maine (WABI) - Tuesday is Election Day, and folks in Bangor made sure to get out and vote. Bangor City Clerk Lisa Goodwin says the flow of people was steady and she saw a higher voter turnout this year compared to previous off-year elections.

Question 1 would require Mainers to present a valid state ID or driver’s license to vote, limit the number of "drop" boxes for ballots and restrict the state's absentee mail balloting process.

The proposed red flag law would not replace Maine's current yellow flag law, and instead both would be on the books. The yellow flag law requires law enforcement officers to first take a person into custody, and for that person to be deemed a danger by a mental health professional, before a dangerous weapon can be taken away.
