KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Voters on both sides of the state line are headed to the polls today. Polls opened at 6 a.m. in Missouri. One of the biggest issues on the ballot on the Missouri side is in Independence.

The four-day week initiative didn’t have an expiration date at first. However, the Missouri General Assembly adopted legislation last year requiring districts with four-day school week calendars to be put to a district vote every 10 years in cities with populations over 30,000.
There are four mid-Missouri counties with specials elections on Tuesday. Voters in Boone County can vote on Hallsville School District Bond and if Hallsville goes to a 4-day school week. The Hallsville School District bond is to re-approve a $6.5 million bond issue that voters passed in April.

Voters reported wait times of two minutes or less at polling locations throughout Jackson and Johnson counties. The low turnout follows historical patterns for non-presidential election years. “With only two things, your check, check, and out the door,” said Laura Thorpe, a Jackson County voter.
