Voters across Minnesota headed to the polls on Tuesday in municipal and school board races, headlined by elections for Minneapolis and St. Paul mayor. Here's a roundup of the 2025 Election Day results.

In Senate District 29, which comprises parts of Wright, Meeker and Hennepin counties to the west of the Twin Cities, Republican Michael Holmstrom Jr. comfortably beat Democratic challenger Louis McNutt. He is ahead by 24.69% with 30 out of 37 precincts reporting.

Minnesota has had a record-tying 6 legislative special elections in 2025. Any additional special election held before the end of the year would break the state’s record for most in a single calendar year.

Voters in Minneapolis went to the polls on Tuesday to cast their ballots for mayor, though the election will proceed to a second round of ranked choice voting since no candidate secured the majority of votes needed to win.

The city of St. Peter held municipal elections Tuesday and several school districts had bond referendums and operating levies on the ballot.

The mayor campaigned with an optimistic pitch, describing St. Paul as a city on the upswing after the pandemic, damage to businesses after the murder of George Floyd.
