Dan Lanning shuts down LSU buzz on national TV, and as On3 and Josh Pate note, Oregon’s resources and trajectory make a move highly unlikely.
Dan Lanning can’t make it any clearer. The Oregon coach, in an appearance on The Ruch Eisen Show, was asked Thursday his interest in leaving Oregon amidst job openings around the country, including Florida and LSU.
With that in mind, Josh Pate suggested to Dan Orlovsky that LSU might not be interested in Shane Beamer. However, there’s another job that’s open that Beamer could be looking at too. That’s the Virginia Tech job, where he went to school and his father is a coaching legend.

National college football analyst lists Dan Lanning as a top target for vacant SEC job
As LSU begins its latest coaching search, Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt has offered up three names he believes the Tigers should call on his podcast Monday. His list includes two of college football’s biggest legends and one rising star who just happens to be leading the Oregon Ducks.
Oregon and head coach Dan Lanning added a key recruit to their 2026 class on Friday, strengthening their push toward national title contention. Hodge, previously committed to Michigan State, praised Oregon's game environment: “The fans were going crazy.”
Joel Klatt named two massive, retired names that would be his first two calls if he were making the hire for the now-open head coaching job at LSU. Then, from there, he named two more who are still actively coaching who would be his third and fourth calls for the Tigers.
LSU and athletic director Scott Woodward are finalizing his separation from the school in the wake of coach Brian Kelly's firing and criticism from Gov. Jeff Landry, sources confirmed Thursday night to The Advocate.
