Dearborn men plotted terror attack at Ferndale locations, feds say
Two men have been charged in connection with arrests made on Oct. 31 after federal and state police officers raided locations in Dearborn and Inkster last Friday.
Dearborn leaders say there's community mistrust in the government from the surveillance, profiling and detentions endured post-9/11.
The FBI Detroit Field Office confirmed Friday morning that Federal Bureau of Investigation officers were in Dearborn and Inkster Friday morning "conducting law enforcement activities."
On Nov. 4, Dearborn residents will vote for mayor of the city. Current mayor Abdullah Hammoud is running for a second term against political newcomer, independent Nagi Almudhegi.
The FBI said multiple people were arrested in Michigan after authorities thwarted a possible terrorist attack.
A man is accusing Dearborn police officials of sending officers to his home to harass him for televised criticism of the mayor and police department.
“Maybe some online chatter, maybe some online activity that may have been worrisome to federal law enforcement, but no plot coming out of these young men, these teenage boys out of Dearborn,” said Amir Makled, who says he represents one of those arrested.
The Dearborn Heights mayoral election comes down to two candidates who know each other well, working on the city council.
