Another one from much warmer times, recording 'What Did the Blackbird Say to the Crow' in North Carolina. A welcome reminder that spring will always come again. I hope you’re staying bundled up out there and enjoying time with loved ones. Video: Alexei Mejouev | Rhiannon Giddens

A true honor to perform “American Tune” with Paul Simon and the incredibly talented students at Juilliard. As I said in the Rolling Stone article, I remember first looking at the lyrics of “American Tune” and going “Oh, my God — did you write this yesterday?” It has stood the test of time, and remains a stirring mirror to society. Thank you Paul for your artistry, and thank you Juilliard for having us! | Rhiannon Giddens

I learned a lot about the US prison system and wrongful incarceration while releasing "Another Wasted Life" and working with Pennsylvania Innocence Project on a video that featured 22 exonerees. More on that experience in this interview with Democracy Now! Link in bio! | Rhiannon Giddens

We have to remember that music, ideally, can be something we do for ourselves as a way to reclaim our culture – not exclusively something we have to buy. This is an excerpt from my talk with Kristina R. Gaddy at University of Michigan about our new book Go Back and Fetch It: Recovering Early Black Music in the Americas for Fiddle and Banjo. | Rhiannon Giddens

Happy Juneteenth! Here’s “I Shall Not Be Moved” from Other Voices a few years back. In the wake of the last surviving members of the Tulsa Massacre being denied reparations, it’s a stark reminder of how far we have to go. | Rhiannon Giddens

Well in the cosmic movements of the universe, I and the Silkroad Ensemble have been long scheduled to announce and drop a single from our new record about the transcontinental Railroad and the people who built it, on this day Oct 1. This single is of “Swannanoa Tunnel,” a song I learned because of the amazing scholarship of two professors from Warren Wilson College, and is the emotional heart of the entire project. I’m still processing that Swannanoa was completely devastated by Hurricane Helene

The new documentary American Coup: Wilmington 1898, co-directed by Brad Lichtenstein and Yoruba Richen, tells the little-known story of a deadly race massacre and carefully orchestrated insurrection in North Carolina’s largest city in 1898 – the only coup d’état in the history of the United States. I’m proud to have contributed a few songs (including co-written and recorded with Dirk Powell) and voiceover for the film. The documentary premieres Today at 9pm ET/8pm CT on PBS and the PBS App. More

Today marks International Wrongful Conviction Day. It is so important for us to honor those who have been wrongfully convicted and do our part to raise awareness of the causes and remedies of wrongful conviction. Last year I worked in partnership with Pennsylvania Innocence Project on the "Another Wasted Life" video to pay tribute to 22 exonerees. | Rhiannon Giddens
